'Still Patient?' were one of the great wave of Gothic bands that emerged in Germany in the 1990's, unfortunately they no longer exist. I first caught 'Still Patient?' live at the excellent 'Sacrosanct' festival in London. This release features their first 2 releases on one double CD. 'Salamand ' opens with 'Agoraphobia' which was a popular song on the dancefloor. 'Killing Hands I' appeared on several compilations again another stomping piece of Gothic darkwave about a serial killer who kills models. 'Hopeless' is a more dark atmospheric song. 'Mascara Osiris' a great dancefloor track pounding drums and driving guitars. 'Drowning' is another slow atmospheric piece. 'Bad Dreams' is fairly routine Gothic Rock. 'Pigeonhole'is also of the same ilk. However 'Anavryn' is another classic cut which will see you on the dancefloor. 'March To Salamand' brings the album to a close amidst an arrange of tribalistic drums and keyboards which reminds me of 'Inside Out' from 'Girls Under Glass'.
'Cataclysm' opens with yet another epic dancefloor track 'God & Satan' about the doubt in the existence of either God or Satan. Great lyrics. 'Sweet Messiah' has mission like guitar riffs and drifts along nicely. 'The Sun' is another great 'Still Patient?' track driving electronics and Gothic guitars. 'Raindance' starts with the atmosphere of a South American jungle, before the rampaging guitars shatter the silence. 'Woodland' is one of their slower atmospheric arrangements. 'The Praying Game' sees the tempo raised again in another slab of Gothic Rock. 'Lies'could easily pass as 'Deathrock' such is the frenzy and power of 'Still Patient?'. 'Cold Winter' allows the listener to recover after the aural assault of the previous track. this one of the few ballads that 'Still Patient/' recorded as they are more known for their up tempo songs. 'Killing Hands II' closes the album and is a piano based version of the original. Definitely one to track down on your next visit to Germany as you should find it easily and quite cheap in the secondhand shops across Germany.
